A cooperative born of friendship

Cooperativa Agraria Monte Azul was founded on 3 October 2015 in the city of Tarapoto, on the initiative of small producers from the surrounding area. It began with 20 farmers and today has 200 members.

Monte Azul members grow coffee in the traditional way, respecting environmental conditions. Alongside it, they take on secondary activities such as raising small livestock and growing staple crops such as maize, beans and plantain. The seeds they use come from their own plots.

The greatness of our family is responsibility and work.

Coffee in the shade of the forest

Every bean of Monte Azul Coffees is grown on small local farms, using sustainable farming methods that respect the ecological balance of the forest. The coffees grow in the shade of the forest's towering trees, and the beans ripen slowly, absorbing the rich nutrients of the soil.

Our coffee farms share their home with four monkey species: Pichico, Tití, Choro and Tocón. Choro and Tocón are endangered. That is why three of our coffees carry the name of one of them: we believe that sustainability and conservation are essential ingredients of an authentic coffee.

The coffee comes from three regions: Amazonas, Cajamarca and San Martín. In San Martín, the cooperative's production areas are in the provinces of El Dorado and Lamas, between 1 and 2 hours from Tarapoto, where the headquarters is.
